Last Wednesday, at the ‘Meet Jabra’s Fantastic Four’ event, we were introduced to Jabra’s latests headsets for the Malaysian market. Here, we’re going to look at the first two devices (out of the four that were launched), and these are from the Music, and Sport categories; the other two device are from the Voice category and together with these two, they make up Jabra’s own Fantastic Four. In the first category, there’s the Jabra Halo Fusion wireless in-ear headphones with an asking price of RM 249, and in the second we have the Jabra Sport Pace which is priced at RM 399. The headsets are available now at ALL IT Hypermarket, Harvey Norman, Machines, and Viewnet Computer Systems outlets nationwide.

Jabra Halo Fusion

Starting off with the cheapest of the lot, the Halo Fusion incorporates a neckband type design (which holds the bulk of the headphone’s build including the battery and controls) to which then the pair of earbuds are attached to. Halo Fusion is being marketed as an on-the-go device for mobile workers and music lovers alike.

The headphone can handle calls and can be connected up to two different devices at a time. This Advanced MultiUse feature (explained at the bottom) will allow users to switch between the two devices on the fly and as necessary. Calls too are expected to sound better now since the buds are designed to isolate noise, and also because the voices from the other end will now come out through the stereo earphones.

A single control button on the Halo Fusion allows for users to remotely use the phone for either music or to make/take calls. This one-touch control button is placed one side of the neckband and the volume rockers on the other. The entire headset only weighs 21 grams and yet packs a battery that will keep the phones going for up to 6.5 hours of talk/music time, after a full 2-hour charge. Even when not in use, the device can go up to 19 days on standby. The headphone connects via Bluetooth 4.0 and has a talk range of up to 10 metres.

Last but not least, Halo Fusion also comes with an IP52 rating, meaning it’s dust protected and can supposedly handle a drizzle for up to 10 minutes.

On the minus side though, the Jabra Halo Fusion only comes in one colour option.

Jabra Sport Pace

Next on the price rank is the entry level sports headphones from Jabra. The wireless Sport Pace headphones do not come with any of the fancy motion tracking or heart-rate monitor as found on its other siblings, but it still inherits their premium stereo sounds.

Although Sport Pace doesn’t have any sensors of its own, the headphone can still be used to accompany, create, track, evaluate, and manage workouts with the help of the Jabra Sport Life app. The app turns the Sport Pace into a training partner by providing training statistics and GPS tracking for runs, no matter what level of fitness the users are in. The evaluation part comes from the built-in tests that users will be able to conduct. For a more engaging workout, the Sport Life app even provides real-time voice coaching that is delivered personally via those in-ear headphones. The coaching can be set to come up automatically at specific intervals, or manually at the press of the dedicated Sport Life button found on the headset. The app is also supposed to be able to integrate with other 3rd party fitness applications, allowing users to continue their workout sessions using their preferred apps.

Sport Pace connects via Bluetooth 4.1, has a range up to 10 metres from source, and comes with Advanced MultiUse feature. The headset has a light-reflective cord that provides a measure of safety when running at night and includes remote buttons for controlling music/call. Sport Pace weights only 21.61 grammes yet packs a battery that’ll get it through 5 hours of use or 5 days on standby. The battery even supports rapid charging where a 15-minutes charge can keep it going for about an hour. More impressively, the Sport Pace headsets have an IP54 rating which gives it protection against dust and splashing of water (making rainy days an obstacle-course instead of just an obstacle).

The Jabra Sport Pace headphones come in Red, Blue or Yellow colour options.

Both headphones have spoken prompts to notify users of the status of pairing, connection and the battery status of the devices. With the Advanced MultiUse feature, users will not only be able to connect up to two phones at a time to a single headphone, but also to answer and to put on-hold calls on either of the phones while they’re each connected to a different call.
