As you all might have read, Fitbit’s Blaze smartwatch will be making its appearance in the US as well as Malaysia next month. But, it now looks like it won’t be alone as the company has also announced the arrival of Fitbit Alta at the same time. The Alta will come with a RM 600 price tag and is expected to hit retail stores such as A One Plus, All IT Hypermarket, Courts Malaysia, Harvey Norman, iStore, iTworld, RadioShack, and Senheng this March. As it is with the Blaze, Malaysian consumers can now sign up to be notified on the Malaysian product page as to when the Fitbit Alta becomes available here.

The stainless steel tracker module comes with a black satin finish and can be easily fitted to any of the available bands. The Alta will come with Black, Blue, Teal, and Plum coloured high-performance bands within the Classic segment; and within the Luxe segment, a choice of either the premium leather bands (Graphite, and Blush Pink), or the Silver coloured stainless steel band. The additional bands will be available at launch and, on their own, these will be priced at RM 130 for the Classics, RM 250 for the Luxe leather bands, and RM 420 for the Luxe stainless steel band. Also to come are Alta Luxe Camel, Alta Gold, and Alta Tory Burch designer collections towards the later part of this year.
To keep users active and to reduce the time that they’re stationary, Alta comes with the Reminders to Move feature to keep the user’s metabolism high and to reduce the negative impact of sitting for extended periods. The reminders come as prompts to achieve a kind of a mini-goal of 250 steps every hour (translates to 2–3 minutes of walking), and can be personalised to the user’s own schedule or set to the ‘Do Not Disturb’ mode during meetings. Fitbit’s SmartTrack feature can be found on Alta as well and works as a smarter way to keep track of the different types of activities the user engages in. It is able to recognise continuous movements/activities such as with walking, running, outdoor biking, elliptical; workouts such as aerobics, dance, cardio-kickboxing; and sports such as basketball, soccer, and tennis.
With its 5-day battery life, all-day activity tracking, automatic sleep monitoring, and hourly/daily/weekly exercise goals, the Fitbit Alta, the Fitbit App, and the Fitbit ecosystem provide an effective way to track and plan activities without being tethered to a power source on a daily basis. In addition to step counts, distance, calories burned, and active minutes during active periods, users will also be able to view how long and how well they’ve slept, as well as to set silent alarms that vibrates. Fitbit Alta has been designed to handle smartphone notifications too. Activity stats, calls, text, and calendar notifications are presented on the tap-activated OLED display, and the Alta connects to any of the 200 Android, iOS or Window mobile devices using the Bluetooth Smart connectivity. Though the watch does not come with any ingress protection (IP) rating, the Alta is water resistant to a certain level: it’s sweat, rain, and splash proof, but is not swim proof.
