Of the 3 other devices and the host of goodies (apart from that Redmi Note 3) that will go on sale during the Mi Fan Festival 2016, it’s perhaps safe to say that the successor to the worldwide hit that was the Mi Band is the most anticipated. Mi Band Pulse will retail for RM 79, but we’re not sure if all of the colour options (Orange, Rose, Green, Turquoise, and Blue) will be made available. To expect the two additional premium leather options would indeed be too much to ask but they would be lovely to have. The band will be available from 10 am onwards this Wednesday, the 6th of April 2016.

With Mi Band Pulse, instead of a redesign on the look and an increase in price, as how some manufacturers have now perfected, Xiaomi has decided not to fix what’s not broken and had opted to add-on something that was highly requested by consumers. The Pulse nomenclature refers to the heart rate recording capability of the band and it uses a photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor to monitor heart beats.

Otherwise, Mi Band Pulse works the same way its predecessor did in which it’s able to automatically track sleep (tracks both length and quality, including deep and light sleep cycles), pairs with Mi Fit app for both iOS and Android as well as to sync with the respective Apple Health or Google Fit apps, provides incoming call alerts, and can even work as a smart vibrating alarm that wakes users up gently and gradually for 30 minutes before the actual alarm goes off.

With a built-in military grade accelerometer by Analog Devices Inc. (ADI), Mi Bands are said to have the lowest power consumption compared to other activity trackers (claimed to use only 1/5 over the others). Synchronisation happens via the DA14580 Bluetooth 4.0 LE chip by Dialog (has a premium label and claimed to be able to run for over 4 years on a single 225 mAh button cell battery), which combined with Mi Band’s 41 mAh battery gives the device an incredible 30-day battery life. Made from aluminium alloy for the sensor and TPSiV thermoplastic elastomers by Dow Corning, Mi Bands are hardy, anti-UV, anti-microbial, hypoallergenic, and comfortable to wear for days. It comes with IP67 rating (water-resistant and dust-proof), has been tested to work in temperatures ranging from -20 °C to 70 °C, drops from 1.2 metres high, and against corrosion.
