Samsung Malaysia Electronics announced its 2016 lineup of SUHD TV (4K) range that come equipped with Quantum dot (QD) technology. Prior to the launch, Samsung Malaysia Electronics even organised what could probably be a first for a TV launch: a pre-order promotion with attractive deals for purchases. The SUHD TV range is now available and it comes in both curved and flat options. The prices are as listed below:

The QD technology is nothing new to Samsung’s lineup, as is SUHD, but this is probably the first time it’s bringing those two together for such large displays. Samsung has also claimed that it offers the world’s first cadmium-free SUHD TV with QD technology. All models come with a resolution of 3840×2160, as well as a screen curvature of 4200R for the curved ones.

These 2016 models are said to offer a more true-to-life picture quality, thanks to the QD technology, as well as an immersive viewing experience, owed to the curved display (it goes without saying that the latter only applies to those curved panels). QD is also said to be able to project colour expressions that are up to 64 times more delicate than conventional TVs. Additionally, the SUHD TVs come with the HDR 1000 feature that provides better contrast between light and dark areas within the picture, and is said to be the industry’s maximum for HDR at 1,000 nits. The displays are helped further with the Samsung’s Ultra Black technology that reduces light reflections from the panel.

Apart from the various display technologies that Samsung has incorporated, design is another aspect that has been given great emphasis. The curved offerings in particular are said to be the world’s first to feature bezel-less design. As if that was not enough, Samsung took them a step further by eliminating unsightly elements from its surfaces, especially the back. Dubbed 360° Design, the initiative is single-handedly responsible for the curved TVs’ clean back, making them equally-beautiful to look at from any angle, even while they’re off.

Making its Smart TV smarter, Samsung has also introduced an important change to its Smart Hub: now powered by its own Tizen OS. Smart Hub integrates broadcast/live programs, internet video services, and games into a menu that is easy and quick to navigate. 2016’s SUHD TV range also has plans to rid the living room of unnecessary remote controls. The TVs will automatically recognise the type of set-top box, game console, OTT box, as well as the home theatre system that gets connected to it, and it does so without a setup. Users will be able to then control external devices with the provided Smart Control remote.
