Steam finally has discount on bundles if they contain owned games

If you’re a PC gaming master race using Steam, you’d often find yourself purchasing game bundles as they usually include older titles of the same IP or from the same publisher. In the past, you would still have to pay the full price of the bundle even if you’ve already own some of the games. Well, not anymore. Valve now offers dynamic pricing for game bundles, if the bundles contain some of the games that are already tied to your account.

In a mail Valve wrote to developers (first reported by PCGamesN), it reads, “With Steam Bundles, if a customer already [owns] some items in the Bundle, they will pay for and receive only the items not already in their account. This allows the best fans of your series or franchise to ‘complete the set’ and get a deal on the remaining items in the Bundle.”

While Valve has yet to officially announce this much-welcomed discount on bundles, the update has already been applied to the Steam service, even in Malaysia. Take the ‘Valve Complete Pack’ for instance; it costs RM199.35 but since I’ve already own more than half of the games, I’ll only need to fork out another RM83.70 to complete this bundle.

The discount I receive since I own half of the titles already.

The 55% discount you see is fixed since before this update. There are 20 titles in this bundle at the time of writing; if you were to buy all of them individually it’ll cost RM443, so this bundle itself already cuts 55% off the total cost, making it RM199.35. Since I’ve already own 11 games from the title, so the 55% discount is only applied to the individual prices of the 9 games I’ve yet to purchase (RM186 – 55% = RM83.70).

It is unclear if this change has been rolled out to everyone, but usually by the time we in Malaysia get new features, chances are, everyone else has got it too.
