Together with the vívoactive HR, Garmin also announced a much smaller and less featured device, but that’s also much more attractively priced. Garmin’s vívofit 3 activity tracker comes with the same Move IQ tracking system which it will be offering for a starting price of US$ 99.99 (~RM 412). We’re using “it will be offering” as Garmin is still awaiting the authorisation as required by the rules of the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
What can be considered as its strongest selling point, vívofit 3 comes with a user replaceable coin cell battery that can keep it going for one whole year, and is waterproof up to 50 metres (5 ATM). These two features on their own should practically sell the device in this age of trackers that require weekly charging (or daily for some of the terrible ones) and are only ‘splash proof’. The tracker comes with a backlit display that can show steps, calories, distance, and intensity minutes of the activities carried out by the user. It can be connected to a smartphone or computer but the purpose of this is just for the synching of the activity data. The tracker does not support notifications from either types of the paired devices but on its own, can still be used to tell the time, date, calendar and to set an alarm, meaning that vívofit 3 can be used as a watch too.
All of the activity data that gets collected be sent to the Garmin Connect service. This free online fitness community will analyse the data received to provide users with a complete picture of their daily activities and insights into their daily lives in an easy-to-understand Timeline view. With tips, cues, and alerts, the Garmin Connect ecosystem will provide users the relevant information as well as to edge them on to reach their wellness goals.
As a daily activity tracker, vívofit 3 comes with the Garmin Move IQ feature that automatically detects and tracks activities, as well as to calculate the so called the intensity minutes. Activities that are recognised by the tracker include walking, running, biking, swimming, and elliptical training. The vívofit 3 works proactively too with its red ‘move’ bar. The bar appears at the top of its display and emits an audible alert when the user has been inactive for 1 hour. The bar builds every 15 minutes after that and can be reset by walking for 2 minutes. Designed as a 24/7 tracking device, vívofit 3 can be worn during sleep too in order to track sleep patterns. This will help to determine the quality and the length of sleep a user gets.
In an interesting more, it looks like Garmin had put in a lot more effort into personalisations for vívofit 3 as compared to its more expensive cousin. For its starting price, users can choose to get the device with a Regular band (in either Black or White), or with X-large band (only available in Black). Other extras of course will cost a little bit more. Some of those on display now include vívofit 3 Camo at US$ 109.99 (~RM 453), and the vívofit 3 Gabrielle bundle at US$ 119.99 (~RM 494). The bundle comes from the Garmin Style Collection and features a small sized quilted-pattern band in Black, together with a waves-pattern band in White.
Those looking to purchase additional bands can look forward to two packs option that Garmin has lined up, at US$ 29.99 (~RM 123) each. These packs offer bands in regular and extra large sizes, in addition to colour options that ranges from Marsala+White, Slate (Shark Fin Gray)+Borealis Green, Slate+Marsala, Camo+Blaze Orange, and Pink Camo+White.

All of these designer two-packs bands will retail for US$ 39.99 (~RM 165) each.
